,This was an interesting day. The drive north through Michigan is easy enough for most of the way, but we were faced by a very brisk northwest wind, which made crossing the Mackinac Bridge a bit of a challenge. The photo on the left shows us passing through an area of construction, both outside lanes closed. Another hour or so and we crossed the two lane International Bridge into Sault St. Marie, Ontario. That's when the fun began. At Canadian customs, we were asked the usual questions: where we're from, where we are going, how long do you plan to stay in Canada, do either of you have a concealed carry permit, which Pete answered affirmatively, and the search was on. Four officers and a dog spent the next twenty minutes going through the motorhome and the car, with all four of the family members outside on a small grassy patch. The officers were very nice, but obviously quite thorough, except no one looked in the car top carrier on top of the Jeep (where nothing illegal was present either). All the time, we were thinking to ourselves what might happen if the prior owner of the coach had stored a handgun somewhere and forgotten to remove it before he traded the coach in. Whew!! Anyway, we're in the land of legal pot spending the night at Batchawana Bay, some number of kilometers north of "The Soo" trying to get used to metric conversion. We pulled into the campground just in time for the dogs to have a good long swim in Lake Superior. They care about the very chilly water, as the photo below will attest.
